Wordpress 2.5

I reckon this is the most controversial Wordpress release to date. With a complete overhaul of the Admin CP, especially the write page. Tbh, I kinda like it, although the Editor seems a little slow. The new logo is rather nice too. Butfor those who aren’t so keen, check out Fluency Admin by DeanJRobson. It’s a bit like WP-Tiger but for WP 2.5.

Tony Scott has suggested the idea of having a WordCamp in the UK. There’s been a lot of debate on his blog about suggesting locations, with many opting for London, but just as many (including me) opting for somewhere a bit more up north! When we do have a WordCamp though, I certainly will be attending!

I’ve eventually got round to setting up Twitter. I’ll add a link in the sidebar to my Twitter page. Got a bit peeved though when I found out that T-Mobile have blocked Twitter in the UK. Not much of a problem though, as I’m changing my phone and provider next month. T-Mobile have done nothing good for me, and I’m switching to O2. They’ve got an offer for an LG Viewty free on a £30 a month contract. IMO, the Viewty is better than the iPhone.

That seems to be quite a long blog post. Maybe it’s because of the smaller editor text size in 2.5? That’s all for now!

Some more fonts…

Don’t worry, this won’t be a long post, but i’ll forget what these fonts are by morning, so I need somewhere to note them down!

Just in case you were wondering (and why wouldn’t you be?):

The font used for the Mint logo is called FF DIN.

And the font used for part of the Burnout Paradise logo (and much of the in-game text) is called ITC Machine

I think ITC Machine is also used for the Brainiac logo too. Anyway, goodnight from me :)!

New server!

After getting a quite stern email saying that DanServ (my old host) had been taken over by Othello Technologies (some webhosting company), I decided to look elsewhere for hosting. The old server appeared to be running on alcohol over the past few weeks, and I was getting quite fed up (as were my clients!).

So. The solution. Find a new host. I soon came across one which seemed fast, had some good reviews, and had reasonably good prices. They’re called AceGX. They moved all my files over (and accounts/dbs/etc), and have provided a great service.

Sorry for any downtime over the last 24hrs whilst the move was taking place, but (fingers crossed!) this move is for the better and AceGX will be my webhost for years to come!

FizzBuzz Generator

Finished coding this little script you might like :)

For those who are unlucky enough to do Fizzbuzz in Maths (or any other subject, for that matter), try the Fizzbuzz Generator to make you a little cheatsheet. It’ll work with any numbers and go up to whatever number you like (honestly, try it!).

Comments welcome :)

Call of a Windows N00b…

Here are a few transcripts from my friend’s convo with a stuck windows n00b the other day…

(10:22:18 PM) Friend: go Start -> Control Panel -> System -> click on some tab or another -> Device Manager
(10:23:05 PM) (S) Ben (#): ok im on device manager
(10:23:22 PM) Friend: check your network cards and that there’s no error messages
(10:23:41 PM) (S) Ben (#): no dont think there are any error messages
(10:24:27 PM) Friend: no exclamation marks by the little icons?
(10:25:20 PM) (S) Ben (#): actually, there is on ‘other devices’ like ethernet controller, multimedia audio controller etc
(10:25:33 PM) (S) Ben (#): not by the network adapters though

Now what could be causing the problems on our network? Surely not the ethernet controller…

Vauxhall Corsa Poem

Chugging along the motorway, running out of fuel;
Driving around in a car like this isn’t really cool.
Because my Vauxhall Corsa is the car I really hate
Never getting me there on time – always making me late

Stuck at Faro Airport, waiting for our car
The hire shop was unhelpful, but then they went too far.
They gave us a Corsa to ferry our way there
With four cases and four people, they didn’t have a care

We struggled down the motorway, stuck up in the back
Seatbelts too tight to handle, not allowing any slack.
Suitcases pounding down, on our feet and knees
Where is all the boot space? Or is this car just trying to tease?

The car itself looks plastic, a huge plastic sphere
Looks like it was made in some really ancient year
It looks worse than a tin can, the paintwork doesn’t shine
And the designers back at Vauxhall think they’ve done just fine.

So I’m just going to rest now, and take a big step back,
If they don’t outsell Renaults, then I’m a happy chap.
Only when I turn 17, and I decide to buy a car,
I’ll leave the Corsa well alone, and I’ll buy a Jaguar!
