20 Great Places to Visit This Summer

Places

I’m going to list twenty great days out in the UK this summer. I’m going to try and visit some, and if you have been to any then leave a comment with your views!

1. Alton Towers
Alton Towers is one of the UK’s most famous theme parks, and there is a great selection of rides for everyone there. Great family fun and it’s not extremely expensive.

2. National Media Museum
The National Media Museum at Bradford is a really interesting museum that also has an IMAX cinema. There’s an interactive television gallery where you can make your own television programme and more.

3. Cadbury World
Cadbury World is one of many great attractions in and around Birmingham, but if you’re a fan of chocolate then this is for you. Interesting and fun to go around and free chocolate samples too! :)

4. Legoland Windsor
Legoland Windsor is a gigantic LEGO-themed amusement park with fun rides for kids (and adults too!) and a massive Miniland of London too. Then you can visit the massive “LEGO store” which sells almost every type of LEGO set imaginable.

5. Chester Zoo
Chester Zoo is one of the largest zoos in England and has a large variety of animals and exhibits. You can see jaguars, monkeys and elephants as well as a lot more. Easy access to the M53 and M56 too.

6. London
I couldn’t really constitute a single London attraction as a day out, but there is lots to see and do in the capital, including the London Eye, Madame Tussauds and the British Museum.

7. White Scar Caves
I recently visited White Scar Caves a few weeks ago, but it was wet so we couldn’t go very far in. However, on a dry day it’s a great cave to visit and it has the biggest single cavern in the country.

8. Jorvik
Jorvik in York is an interactive look into the history of the Vikings when they were in York. You travel back in a time machine which goes horribly wrong and leaves you in the world of the Vikings.

9. Centre for Life
The Centre for Life in Newcastle is a science museum for young people and older people alike. It’s a very interactive museum with hands-on experiences.

10. Sealife Adventure
The Sealife Adventure is a water-life museum in Southend-on-Sea. There’s lots of fish to see and tunnel you can walk through which is surrounded by sharks and rays.

11. Longleat
Longleat is a large estate which now houses a safari park, one of the biggest hedge mazes in the country and a stately home. Other attractions include a giant play area and a disused mine where you go on a treasure hunt.

12. The Eden Project
The Eden Project is a massive collection of gardens, exhibits and more in Cornwall. There’s cafes, bridges and even a zipwire!

13. Warwick Castle
Warwick Castle is a big Medieval-themed castle in Warwickshire. It’s rumoured to be haunted and you can go on a ‘Ghost Experience’ in the towers.

14. Royal Air Force Museum
The RAF Museum London has over 100 aircraft on display including war planes and information about some of Britain’s greatest military battles. Admission is free.

15. The Beatles Story
The Beatles Story is a fascinating look into the history of one of the world’s most notable bands. The museum includes replicas of The Cavern Club and Abbey Road Studios. There is also an Audio Tour which I thought was really interesting. It’s on Albert Dock in Liverpool.

16. Thorpe Park
Thorpe Park is another of England’s fantastic theme parks, but is more for the thrill-seekers out there with Colossus, Stealth and Nemesis Inferno.

17. World of Beatrix Potter
The World of Beatrix Potter is a museum in Bowness-on-Windermere, where you can have a peek into the life of the famous author. While you’re in Bowness, there’s a lot of other things you can enjoy too, including Lakeland walks, and the golf course too.

18. Imperial War Museum North
The Imperial War Museum North is a museum in Salford which has massive silos featuring war planes and some interesting material from the war. Then you can go up the tower and look out over Manchester from the top.

19. Brighton and Hove
Brighton is a great holiday tourist destination on the south-coast of England. You can visit Brighton Pier, the Sea Life Centre, and the Brighton Racecourse.

20. Blackpool Pleasure Beach
Blackpool Pleasure Beach is a great theme park on the seaside at Blackpool. There are some coasters, family rides and the world’s last Noah’s Ark ride. It’s a good idea to buy a wristband as tickets can be expensive!

I hope you’ll enjoy visiting some of these places over the summer, and drop a comment with your ideas too!

Amazingly I think I’ve been to nearly all of these places without really meaning to. Great list though, although you could do with a few more northern attractions.. flamingo land or thorpe park maybe? ;)

Since I’ve not really been down south many times, I tried to list an equal amount of attractions for north/south. I think I ended up sub-conciously choosing more southern ones than northern in the end. :)

Flamingo Land and Lightwater Valley may be good additions to the list..?
