To stop your information being let out publicly go to http://www.facebook.com/settings/?tab=privacy&section=search and uncheck Allow Indexing in the Public search results section to stop this. I kept my current settings that means that all my profile information is only available to friends after changing this setting, or it's back to normal in other words.
